Description

This type of DNA test determines the likelihood & statistical probability that two or more persons are related as brothers and/or sisters.

A siblingship test is normally done when a paternity test is not an option and thus, the only means of establishing paternity is by testing the alleged father’s suspected children to see whether they are related to each other.

Unlike a DNA paternity test which will always provide a conclusive result, siblingship DNA tests are different. When a siblingship DNA test is conducted, the laboratory will determine the genetic profile of the alleged relatives. A siblingship test starts with the analysis of known relatives:

Sibling 1 and Sibling 2 do not share the same biological mother and they want to find out if they share the same biological father—in this situation, a half siblingship test is performed.

Sibling 1 and Sibling 2 share the same biological mother but are unsure if they share the same biological father—in this situation, a full siblingship test is performed.

In the test, the siblings’ DNA profiles are compared to see how much of their DNA could have come from a common father. Participation of the mother(s) is encouraged to help exclude the mother’s contribution to the children’s DNA. Siblingship tests require more analysis, hence could be more expensive and take a longer time to complete without the mother’s participation.

The full or half sibling test could be of three types:

Brother To Brother

The sampling for this analysis is done in front of a Doctor and the reports can be used for immigration or other legal disputes. Here, the mother’s sample is needed and taken in front of the doctor too.

Brother To Sister

This is only for one’s peace of mind and the report cannot be presented to any legal entities as the samples are collected by the client themselves, so the implication of mother’s consent is solely the responsibility of the client.

Sister To Sister

This is only for one’s peace of mind and the report cannot be presented to any legal entities as the samples are collected by the client themselves, so the implication of mother’s consent is solely the responsibility of the client.
